John and Barb Miller

John was accompanied by three of his four daughters Shantel, Shawna, and Sherry,

who came in honor of his celebration, a fourth daughter lives in California.

First of all I would like to congratulate the IWSA for putting their best “ski” forward in hosting an absolutely superb banquet. The feature of the banquet was the induction of John and Barb Miller into the IWSA Hall of Fame. I would like to thank Bill Roach for giving me the opportunity to present John with the award.

The following is a short list of achievements that John and Barb have had in their career with IWSA. Once John and Barb were introduced to their first tournament they immediately became active. This was in the early 1960’s.

In 1968 John became an assistant judge and Barb became an assistant scorer.

Around 1975 John became a regular judge and Barb a regular scorer.

In 1977 Barb received the Rollie Williams Award and John received the same in

1978.

In 1984 Barb became a senior scorer and in 1987 John became a senior judge.

They not only worked AWSA tournaments, they worked Pro, National,

Collegiate, and Show Tournaments.

Through the years John and Barb have worked over 300 tournaments.

Again, I wish to thank the IWSA for giving me the privilege to honor these two very fine people.

John and Barb Miller go way back to the beginning of water skiing in Indiana. Growing up in the Lakes area and settling down to raise 4 daughters on Dewart Lake in Syracuse In. made it difficult to not get involved in skiing. Having a big part to do with the Dewart Lake skiing activities on the lake, the Dewart Lake club went on to conduct ski shows as well as produce many three event skiers that attended many tournaments. John and Barb got involved judging events back in the early 1970's. Judging many show tournaments as well as many three event tournaments. It was known that they would travel around and judge as many as 50 ski tournaments in one season. Once the Dewart Lake Club dispersed John and Barb was Club members of Camelot Lake in Syracuse, one of the first man made lakes for three event skiing in Indiana. They would spend many weekends out of the year helping the club host their tournaments as well as continue to travel to others. Camelot would go on to host the 1983 regional Tournament as well as the 1991 and 1992 Regionals they co-hosted with WSI as well. John and Barb are both past Rollie Williams Award Recipients, 1978 and 1976 respectively. John lost his wife after battling health issues and still resides at his Dewart Lake residence. Through all Barb's remembrance and her commitment for their 4 daughters to finish complete their education through collage came the beginning of the Barb Miller Scholarship. John will still show up and judge a tournament or two at some of his favorite venue's. But what he likes best is watching his kids and grandkids play in his back yard in the warm waters of Dewart Lake.
