Ski Club of the Year - Silent Shores
 |
At this years state tournament, when
Patty Patterson showed up on the starting dock to get ready to slalom at 7
in the morning the whole state of Indiana knew something was up. Her
Ski Team, Silent Shores, hadn't ever won the
State Team
Trophy - , and when they were members of Sugar Creak they hadn't won a
state championship either, and they were bringing in all the forces to do
just that. With the help of every member of their ski club |
that could ski, Silent Shores won their first state team
trophy by 64 points. They went on to display their team pride hanging banners
and displaying their trophy at each of their local tournaments there after.

Official
of the Year -
Patty Patterson -
Her nominator said it best, "when I'm on the radio, in any tournament, it is
always great to her her voice on the other end of the radio". Patty keeps a
tournament running smoothly, catching hick ups and errors before they turn
into bigger disasters and her persistence and feed back over the air waves
never breaks down communications. She is on site from beginning to end,
Keeps everything under control, gets the results posted, and is always
friendly and patient to everyone who works by her side.

Volunteer of the Year -
Jerry Hodges - As a result of unfortunate issues, the title
sponsor for the Indy Skiers couldn't provide a tow boat for to the club for
the 2011 season. It is critical to the success, and even existence , of the
Indy Skiers to be able to operate the Thursday Night Ability Series for Indy
Parks, and not having a tow boat available for the season would surely have
it's consequences if not for Jerry. For the majority of the Thursday nights,
Jerry had selflessly brought his trusty Malibu to the rescue and pulled many
skiers late into the evenings. There were many evenings where daylight would
run out before Jerry would get a ski ride in for himself. This giving
attitude and love for the sport exemplifies what Jerry, and the Indy Skiers
are all about. Indy Skiers club members and non-club members alike owe Jerry
a huge 'thank you' for another great season.

Big Rigger of the Year Tom Eggers - Tom
had moved into a house on a ski lake just this spring. Only to see the site
almost totally destroyed and his house threatened a couple months later from
flash floods and high water. When the water spilled into the lake taking out
it's barriers, tom went out in the rapid waters to save the ski jump. As the
currents were trying to wash it away Tom got it untied just as a whirl pool
o water was forming around him. As Tom broke away from the jump in his row
boat and couldn't break away from the currents of the swirling waters. Tom
jumped ship and swam to shore only to turn and watch the boat get pulled
under water. After a year of work getting things back in order he started a
Wednesday night jump league with members and friends who would share a set
of jump every Wednesday pushing the interest of Jumping.
