It was typical Scott Tynan/Sawmill Lake weather on Saturday, September 20th. Even the first skiers off the dock didn't complain due to a warm prediction and picture perfect water conditions. Approximately 30 skiers enjoyed the excellent water conditions and usual hospitality of the Sawmill Lake group. Out of state skiers from Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee joined the Hoosier skiers for the day.

The August 9th Boondocks Tournament is now on the record books. Thanks to the tournament directors and lake owner Scott Morton, this event had 7 grassroots skiers entered in part due to reduced entry fees. This event was also the last stop for the 2014 Hoosier Buoy Tour. The final tabulations are in: The Boondocks Hoosier Buoy Tour winners were 1st - Alexis Mishler, 2nd - Julie Mishler, 3rd - Scott Morton. The Hoosier Buoy Tour Season Championship was awarded to Alexis Mishler. 1st Runner Up was Scott Morton, and 2nd Runner Up was a tie going to David Marbaugh and Chris Banguis. The Hoosier Buoy Tour scoring was a handicapped system awarding a greater percentage to those skier whose performance (buoy count) increased from their first HBT event to the final. Regular tournament skiers enjoyed the hospitality of the Morton family and their beautiful facility. Several skiers got into the 38' off category and the top skier of the day was Kevin Smith with a score of 4 @ 38' off. Check usawaterski.org for all of the official scores. The 65th Bart's Indiana State Water Ski Championships held at Hawthorn Lake is now history. The event got off to a rainy start gut the skies cleared after an hour and half rain to present pristine skiing conditions for all skier divisions on both Saturday and Sunday. Podium awards were presented throughout the day. Several State Championship Records were broken on both days by skiers Nate Smith, Prissy Edwards, Gary Hall, and Glen Reid. Attendance was at an all time high in comparison to recent state tournaments. IWSA enrolled 20 new memberships bringing our numbers up close to 100 memberships! (more that double from previous years!) Thanks to Hawthorn Lake, the Tucker family, the Detty families, the officials, the promo boat representatives, and friends who pitched in to help.

The first of 2 "learn to ski days" sponsored by the Indy Skiers at their ski site on White River just north of 16th Street in Indianapolis was well attended by both members and guests. Several new skiers learned to water ski and we were all witness to a couple of people who learned to slalom ski. Boat rides to the "not so brave" folks was also provided along with beverages and food. Hats off to the Indy Skiers for promoting our favorite sport. |
