Gene Lamberson
1999 Hall of Fame Inductee

Learned to ski on Lake Freeman in 1952. Learned to trick ski in 1961 and barefoot in 1962 Gene took up competitive skiing in 1962 while in college after a High School Athletic Career. He earned ten Varsity letters, co-captioned football, basketball and track teams. He earned all-State status in the 220 yd. dash, and competed on of a State football championship team, four County Track championship teams and a County Basketball Championship team.
Competed in 1962 Oppo Open and the Indiana State. Skied in 50 consecutive Indiana State tournaments including 2011.
Won 11 State trick titles in that time with at least one in each of 5 different decades ( 70’s, 80’s, 90’s. 00’s and 10’s.)
Selected Rollie Williams award winner in 1975 and was elected to Indiana State water ski Hall of Fame in 1987. He was the second skier named to the hall of Fame.
Judged in ‘62 Indiana State, became regular judge in 1965 and was named by Rollie Williams as appointed Judge for Indiana State in 1965. Judged 22 of 24 events in that tournament. Was Chief Judge for one Indiana State in La Porte and went into retirement from Judging when battling cancer in 1987.
Also Served as membership Chairman for IWSA for ten years.
Peak of career came in 2011 when he skied in his first nationals. As Only a trick skier, in 2011 he won Indiana State, finished 5 th in Midwest Regionals and 5 th in Nationals. Also in 2011 he taught all three grandchildren to ski on Lake Freeman where he began skiing.
Gene was recognized by IWSA in 2011 for skiing in 50 consecutive Indiana State Water Ski Tournaments.
Gene is Civil Engineer working in Highway and Bridge construction. He is licensed to practice in 7 States. He was awarded the career achievement award by Purdue University School of Civil Engineering in 1997. He received a BSCE degree in 1963 and MSCE degree in 1965 and was recognized in 2011 on the occurrence of his 150 guest lecture at Purdue.
Gene now lives on Lake Freeman in Monticello.
