6/23/08         Nate Smith Wins US Jr. Open

Nate Smith won the Jr. US Open Slalom event in West Chester , OH over the weekend. Nate after going to Sawmill to get some practice with Zero Off Thursday night hit a magnet and destroyed his fin. With no time to get a new fin, Mr. Tom Jackson of Sawmill gave Nate a D3 fin for his Connelly ski. Off to the Jr. Open they go with Nate only to get one practice set on his new set up. Going into the event Nate was top seed. After Saturday preliminary's Nate fell behind Adam Sedlmajer from Czech Republic to second seed with a score of 2 -1/2 @ 38 off. Nate in the finals now second seed ran his 38 off and 1 @ 39 topping Adams 5 @ 38 off to take the Jr. Open Slalom Title. Something tells us we haven't heard the end of Nate Smith. Congratulations Nate.

Our second Monday Night Ski League of the season went like clockwork!   Gary Hall and Brian Detty conducted the driving part of the driver's clinic while pulling Monday Night Ski League participants.  Each set had a new driver and a new skier.  Wind and high water made  both driving and skiing a bit of a challenge but when the skiers were offered a second free set......the line formed!  Special thanks to Mark Qualkinbush, Gary Baumann, and John Kniesly for officiating.  Our next Monday Night Ski League will be July 7th.  Here's some Pics

5/23/08        Nate Smith Update

Well, who knows if it was the nerves of his first Jr. Masters Tournament, the fact that it's still early in the season for us midwesterners or the troubled waters at Robin Lake. Nate falls early in his second pass at 32 off. Nate wasn't alone, others were having trouble navigating the tricky waters of Robin Lake as well as a hand full of skiers went down at the same line length. We still congratulate Nate for the honors of an invitation to the Jr. Masters and we won't be surprised if he returns next year.

5/23/08        Nate Smith

Don't forget to support Nate as he takes to the water today at the 16th Jr. Masters Water Ski Tournament at Robin Lake in Pine Mountain Georgia. The preliminary round starts Friday the 23rd and the top three will advance to the finals on Saturday morning. For more information and to watch all the event on live web cast please click Here

5/23/08        Collegiate All Stars and Team Trials

Last weekend - 5/16-18 the Purdue Ski Team along with the Southern Illinois University Water Ski Team pulled off another highly successful prestigious Water Skiing event in DuQuoin Ill. Here IWSA's collegiate representatives and event organizers Cale Burdick and Abby Schmitt conduct business at the events banquet. One officials comment " I really think they set the bar pretty high for next years event." - "Great organization, lots of planning, and a group of outstanding volunteers made everything go easy." One comment - " I couldn't believe how many Schmitt's were involved." This says a lot to the group of volunteers as well as our young organizers coming up in the sport.

The Midwest Region won the Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships on Sunday, tallying 10,450 points at the 14th annual event. The Western Region finished runner-up, scoring 9,315 points, followed by the Eastern (3,625 points) and South Central (2,540 points) regions.

The Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships includes the top-10 men and top-10 women from each of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association's four regions vying for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. A team title also is awarded to the top-scoring region.

Purdue's Cale Burdick won titles in men's slalom and jumping, and tied for the overall title. It was the fourth consecutive year that Burdick won the men's slalom title at the All-Stars.
