MasterCraft Boats
|
MasterCraft is currently looking for a few new
tournament team members in our area to help promote our sport and their
products. MasterCraft has an excellent program for qualified members who
may be looking to spread the word for their sake and ours. If you
seriously think you'd like |
 |
to participate in
the Master Craft Promotional Program contact the mid west region tournament
team representative
Jim Bebee to submit your application.

Mastercraft Boat Company recently
completed a fall promotional project called 'Fanfare.' Prospective buyers and
past owners of Mastercraft boats were invited on designated days to tour their
factory and drive the entire lineup of Mastercraft's. The company, like so
many others, is trying to promote and increase sales in these hard economic
times. The factory tour is really an eye-opener as to how boats are built.
Mastercraft offers the factory tour to any and all by appointment. At this
particular event, attendees were given the keys to drive all of the different
models that were in the water waiting after the factory tour. The factory
sits right on Tellico Lake in Tennessee. Incentives and discounts on options
were offered to the prospective buyers at this event. For a few pictures of
the event see

The Banquet Files
Wine and Cheese
Ninety Eight members and their families came together at the
7th Annual Awards Dinner
Banquet for one last outing before the snow flies.
Arguably the best get together yet, the night started by sending the old
season out with the annual Wine and Cheese Party where everyone congregates
together to chat about the past and up coming seasons. After the Wine and Cheese
Party everyone took their seats in the dining room where a short general
membership meeting took place. The meeting was constructive in building the tournament season schedule for the
2010 season as well as your new slate of IWSA
officers. All the details from
that meeting will come in the months to come as details get finalized. The
schedule of clinics that will be presented next spring is also in the works.
Then it was announced that
Timberlake
in Evansville won the bid to host the 2010 Indiana
State Tournament.
Dinner
Next the guests were treated to a delicious dinner at the Primo's Banquet
facility in Plainfield, where video's from the season was played on a big
screen for all to see, and then a presentation of awards to outstanding members

Chase McCain
Chase
graduated from Navy Boot Camp on Friday September 25 and is officially a
"Sailor". He's started his training to become a Navy Diver at Great
Lakes Naval Base (north of Chicago) and will finish up in Panama City
Florida around the first of June next year. In the first week of Diver
training 7 sailors dropped out of the program (they started with 25). It
may have something to do with crawling in the mud, carrying phone poles
or running 5-7 miles. Chase is doing well, he's made a lot of friends
and can already leave the base and wear civilian clothes. He enjoys
getting a paycheck and being in touch with the world via his cell phone

Indy Skiers Community Day
"Indy Skiers"
held their second "community day" on Saturday, September 12th,2009.
The event was well attended by club members but guests were a little
sparse. The sunny 80 degree day was enjoyed by all that attended.
Skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, and just plain fun on the water made the
day a success. Dan Reed, just back from the Disabled Worlds in France
made an appearance showing off his medal and sharing stories of his
overseas experiences with club members." More Images are

If you
recall Chase cut his ski season short to start his career in the Navy.
He's been in boot camp at Great Lakes (north of Chicago) for a little
over 5 weeks now. Only 3 weeks till he graduates and starts training
to become a Navy Diver for 6 years.
His only
form of communication with us is he can send and receive mail. In the
last letter we rec'd he told us he along with the other recruits
graduating the end of September were part of a photo shoot.

Dan Reed to Ski Disabled Worlds
| Our own IWSA member Dan Reed leaves
for the IWSF Disabled Water Ski World Championships in 2 weeks as a member
of the team. It will be held in Vichy, France from August 31st
to September 6th. “IWSA is helping to support Dan through
our May golf outing which raises funds for Junior and Disabled
waterskiing” His fund raising efforts have been successful but are just a
little short of the goal. This will be Dan’s first trip ever out of the
country. We would like to see Dan have a fun and successful trip and not
have to worry about each meal or European travel expenses. This is
one last push to all IWSA members to help. Contributions can be

8/17/09 Indy Skiers on Indystar.com
The Indy Skiers were finally able to host the
years first Community Learn to Ski Program this past Saturday, August 15,
after being washed out by Mother Nature in June and July. There was plenty
of sunshine in the beautiful blue skies above Lake Indy on White River, as
well as several folks who came out to give our wonderful sport a try for the
first time. Club members volunteered by offering their boats, time,
expertise, smiles and encouragement, as well as lots of food from the grill
for everyone. Special thanks goes to N3 Boatworks for also supplying the Ski
Nautique for the day. The Indy Skiers Ski Club was honored with a captioned
picture in the Sunday Star and a multi-media slideshow at IndyStar.com.,
both profiling the successful event. To see the pictures, click here;

IWSA Clinic Week
|
IWSA's first
clinic week went off as a huge success. These clinics spread over 4 days of
great weather starting off with a
Jr. Development day for aspiring kids that need
help getting their feet wet. 10 kids as young as 2 little ones at the age of
3 years old took the advice from state champion Scott Schmitt to get on the
right track of riding there skis.
Then 7 trick
skiers took advantage of the
trick ski clinic to better hone in their skills on
riding those shorter little skis.
Day 3 was for the
advanced
Jr. Development group which 12 Jr. skiers got top
notch instruction in slalom trick and jump |
 |
from world renown
coach and national competitor of Jack Travers Ski School in Florida, Chris
Travers. The final day was the
Big Rig Jump Clinic for all jumpers. 12 riggers took
something back with them from jump expert coach Chris Travers. Thanks to IWSA's
Jr. Development Chair Person Carla Stornetta for the great organized events as
well as the t-shirts which were appreciated by all the participants.
These clinics reached
over 40 skiers who took advantage of the instruction from Scott Schmitt, Rhonda
Schmitt, Chris Travers. Then was topped of with the Big Rig
three event tournament at the host site, Hawthorn lake. Big Thanks to Brian & Kelly Detty for
their hospitality and site. Nate Smith for his driving skills and his
commitment. John Kniesly, Scott Schmitt, Rhonda Schmitt, Sam Schmitt, Bill Roach
and Chris Travers for making the trip. We have some very dedicated folks here in

The Wisdom Lake Wet Willy Grassroots Tournament was held
on June 14th. Due to light attendance, entrants and helpers all got to ski
multiple sets on the glassy smooth waters of Wisdom Lake. The excitement of
a final tie/sudden death run-off between hot dog skiers Jeff Myer and Neal
Clark added to the positive flavor of the day. Thanks to hosts Duane
Keillor and Carrie Fong and special thanks to the Fairland Ski Club members
Mark Powers, Mark Qualkinbush, Gary Baumann, and Dan Federspill who came

Dan Reed to Compete at Worlds
Here's an update on Dan's quest to ski the
disabled nationals. RHI Sports has put together a nice bio of Dan and what he
has accomplished to get his invitation to this great event. To view this page
along with info on how to donate to his great cause please click
here.
The original story is below: -
|
Dan Reed has trained very hard and has excelled in adaptive water skiing.
Dan has also been a great promoter and ambassador for the sport of water
skiing. Now Dan’s hard work has been recognized in his selection to
represent the United States in the 9th Disabled Water Ski World
Championships to be held Aug. 31-Sept. 6 in Vichy, France. Being
selected for the U.S. team is a great honor and privilege and I congratulate
Dan on his achievement. One aspect of participating in this event is the
cost of training and travel associated with competing on the U.S. Team.
According to Bill Bowness, President of the Water Skiers with Disabilities
Association, a sport |
 |
discipline of USA Water Ski, Dan
needs to raise about $2,000 to cover his tournament expenses PLUS airfare
costs. Dan will also need to raise funds to cover additional training in
preparation for the event and funds for other expenses. Let’s all pull
together to help Dan achieve his goal of competing in the 2009 Disabled Water
Ski World Championships! If you are interested in helping Dan, you may make a
contribution to the Water Skiers with Disabilities Association or the RHI
Foundation. Make sure you include “For Dan Reed” in the memo area of your
check, or include other specific instructions with your donation to ensure the
funds help Dan get where he is going. For additional information on the Water
Skiers with Disabilities Association and the RHI Foundation please click

Thanks for anything you can do. Tom Silnes

The 2009 Rehabilitation Hospital
of Indiana handicapped water ski tournament is history. Wednesday, June 3rd
was a complete washout and was probably responsible for the record turnout
of skiers on Thursday, June 4th. Morse Reservoir was rough, muddy, log
strewn, and cold but that didn't dampen the spirits of the participants.
N3boatworks, Pinecrest Marine, and Morse Lake Inboards supplied brand new
competition ski boats for the event. Don't forget the multitude of
volunteers, neighbors, and hospital staff that contributed their time and
efforts to make this year's event a success. Images of the 3 day event are

sponsored SPRING FLING is history. The weatherman provided a perfect 80
degree blue sky day for skiers and wakeboarders to enjoy. Skiers enjoyed
Fairland Ski Club's waters until 1:30 and the wake boarders took over until
4:30. Fairland members worked the grill providing free burgers, hot dogs,
chips, and beans. Skier's Edge set up shop with a variety of equipment and
accessories along with Pinecrest Marine who also had goods for sale. Boat
displays by Pinecrest Marine, Aqua Marine, and N3boatworks were enjoyed by
all. Special thanks to N3boatworks for providing a Ski Nautique for the
skiers and an Air Nautique for the wakeboarders. Thanks to the Fairland Ski
Club for donating their facility and work for this special event. Pictures are
