Advanced Level Adaptive Water Ski Clinic

Description:

Prior to the 2010 US Disabled Nationals and Pan/Am championships, a one day advanced level adaptive water ski clinic will be offered to assist skiers in their pursuit of tournament level water skiing.  This clinic will serve the needs of two distinct groups of individuals interested in either introduction to tournament water skiing or coaching adaptive water skiers.

A maximum of six skiers will receive an introduction to the tournament skiing techniques of slalom, trick, and jump basics. Going over the jump ramp will not be included during this clinic, however; setup and drills to learn to jump will be presented on request.  Skiers will receive education on skiing strategies, equipment recommendations, and techniques to advance their skiing.  Two on water sessions will be conducted during the day.

Furthermore, this clinic will assist up to four coaches in assessing the physical ability and skiing movements of adaptive water skiers.  Emphasis will be on recognizing the skiing movements of adaptive skiers to assess and improve on their current abilities.  Video review and analysis combined with on water sessions in slalom and trick will be included.  The attending coaches will receive written information on fitting skiers and equipment setup prior to the clinic to expedite their understanding of strategies.   The attending coaches should be interested in learning about coaching skiers at advanced levels.  Focus will include equipment setup, dryland training for athletes, video/still photo review as a tool to coach, coaching techniques, and on water assessment and goal planning for athletes.

Notes:

Skiers should be “self-starters” and be able to get in the ski in the water with very minimal assistance.  A pre clinic drills list is available to assist skiers in mastering these aspects of skiing upon request.

One of the lead coaches will be in the boat at all times with the other on the shore setting up equipment and providing dryland instruction.  With the use of video review, all coaches and skiers will be able to watch, comment, and ask questions about all on water activity.

This clinic will be sanctioned through USA Water Ski and a guest or active membership is necessary for all participants.

Non-US skiers may participate if space is available on July 27, 2010
