I ran into Don Scheimann over the holidays. He invited me over to see one of his Christmas presents. It is a custom made wooden display ski, personally engraved with Don’s favorite tournament and favorite bible passage. The tournament, A Day of Challenge hosted by the Lake James Sports Club was held on Lake James. I remember my first tournament experience was in 1971 at A Day of Challenge tournament. And the bible phrase is “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”. And you will note the ski boasts inlayed wood similar to skis of the ‘70s like Maharajah as well as a “Scheimann” fin. Further, in years past Don was all about standing tall, which he has engraved by the slalom skier. But Father Time has created challenges for Don so he had it also engraved simply with stand!. Don is such an inspiration and an Indiana Water Ski Ambassador! Don & Rene were so instrumental with connecting folks with tournament skiing for which I am truly grateful. Dear IWSA Member,
As you may know, I have a physical disability as a paraplegic and knowing first-hand the impact of adaptive sports, the RHI Sports Program mission “to provide competitive and non-competitive athletic opportunities to individuals with physical disabilities to enhance quality of life, promote physical fitness, introduce recreational and wheelchair sports and challenge participants to perform at a competitive level" could not be closer to my heart. I would love for you to join myself and John Kniesly as our guest for the upcoming Spirit of Sport breakfast, a special event that supports the RHI Sports Program for persons with physical disabilities. The breakfast takes place on Thursday, March 9 from 7:30am-8:30am at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Ag/Horticulture Building. As a Spirit of Sport Table Co-Captain along with John Kniesly, I would be honored for you to be our guest at this unique event. There is no cost to attend and breakfast is included. Please let me know if I can add you to my guest list for our table and if you have any questions. I hope to see you there! Please reply by email to [email protected] or visit the event page at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rhi-sports-program-spirit-of-sport-breakfast-march-9-2017-tickets Sincerely, Dan Reed/Co-Captain RHI Sports Water Ski Team IWSA Disabled Representative |
