It was "kid heaven" at the June 26th Kodiak Summer Fun Tournament. There were youngsters everywhere!!! "Breezy" conditions prevailed all day which made some "PB's" difficult to attain. The main tournament finished early, allowing for some "ski skat" demonstrations and a "slippery slalom" contest. The night ski began at 10:00 PM and offered a new challenge to "running the course!" Accolades to the McCullough family for sharing their beautiful site, great food, and oodles of fun for everyone! The first full day of summer was celebrated by the Kokomo Water Ski Club by sponsoring the second Monday Night Ski League series on June 21st, 2021. A "full house" of approximately 12 skiers enjoyed the smooth waters of their site. A cold front moved in on the afternoon but the spirits and enthusiasm for ski coaching by Neal Clark was sizzling! Thanks to Kokomo member Prissy Edwards for organizing, member Dale for bringing food, grill, swim mat, and manning the grill, and to other members for driving and hosting. Next grassroots event is at Boondocks Lake near Kirkland, Indiana. Check the website at IndianaWaterSki.org for directions, date, and times. The first of the 2021 Monday Night Ski League series met at Brewski Lake on June 15th. The evening weather was perfect except for a bit of sun glare later in the evening. Ten skiers suited up for a $10 set that offered some coaching from Brewski skiers. Some new faces, some old faces, and some faces from far away! Hot dogs with chips and drinks and goodie bag towels were prized by all skiers. Next Monday Night Ski League is next Monday at Kokomo Ski Club. Check the website for address and times. The second scheduled Indiana 2021 tournament enjoyed picture perfect weather at Champion Lake in McCordsville, Indiana, Sunday, June 13th. It was certainly a "D-3 Water Ski" day! The dominate ski brand was D-3! Even Kevin Smith, who for decades skied on his Goode "ouchie", was on a new D-3 water ski! It was heart warming to see some father/son combos......Kim and Casey Contos, Sean and Gavin Conboy, Kevin and Nate Smith....and of course Grandpa Bucher and grandchildren. Let us also note the return of recently retired Lance Black skiing his first tournament in 13 years and Champion Lake resident Sean Comboy skiing his first tournament in 15 years! It's never too late! Sawmill Tournament Cancelled
The Sawmill Spring Record that was scheduled for this Saturday, June 12 is cancelled – the buoy anchor eyelets have begun to fail. The entire course is being replaced this weekend....Bummer Champion Lake Spring Record is still scheduled for Sunday, June 13. The forecast for rain did not hold true! The youngsters and officials gathered at 8:00 AM this past Wednesday and Thursday, in spite of a dismal weather forecast, to begin the annual "Junior Development Clinic" held at beautiful Kodiak Lake. Participants of all ages gathered water ski advice from experienced coaches and lots of patience from the boat drivers. Numerous "thanks" to promoter Kent Hoops and family, Pro Wake Water Sports for t-shirts, The Liquid Edge for the spectacular Mastercraft promo boat, and the McCullough family for use of their beautiful property. |
