Indiana Water Skiers, The final Indiana Water Ski Tournament is over and it's time to think about the awards banquet coming up on November 5th. We need awards nominations for the banquet. Please see attached form. Send to any IWSA board member. In a word.....wet!.....describes the last Indiana water ski tournament of 2016! It drizzled, it misted, it poured, it R-A-I-N-E-D! There were a few breaks in the day but every skier got to ski in the rain in at least one of the 3 rounds! The weather did not stop the drivers, judges, and scorer from doing their assigned jobs. Except for 2 brief "time outs," the event ran non-stop during the day ending about 6:00 PM. The weather didn't phase the youngsters as they swam and jumped off the boat house all day and invented a Gatorade Bottle game. World record holder Nate Smith was on hand to do driving and judging but he still is not skiing. The skies did clear up at the end of the day for the traditional BBQ supper put on by one of the generous Sawmill residents. Looks like Labor Day weekend was a great weekend for Indiana water ski tournaments The folks at Timberlake in southern Indiana put out the welcome mat on Sunday, September 4th. Up north it was the Bucher Family Outing.....looks like down south it was the Schmitt Family Reunion! Looks like Doug Meeker came out "top dog" in the slalom event while Scott Schmitt was the top "overall" skier of the day.
The Traditional Cindonway Shores Labor Day Tournament returned on September 3rd with resounding success. The event might have been renamed the "Bucher Family Party!" All members of the Shane Bucher family celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary by having all family members ski! Michele Bucher (Wonder Woman) slalom skied into short line only 3 weeks after delivering #4 Jada Bucher! And other Bucher grandchildren also participated. Peggy Bucher served her lasagna buffet lunch to all after round #2. Early morning sun glare forced the "one way running" for early morning skiers. Three event skiers Glen Reid with Lauren Smith and Ari Grode from Michigan finished up the day completing successful jumps at 6:00 PM. Expert driving by Matt Beck avoided trouble when the steering cable broke on the Nautique pulling Prissy Edwards around the West island late in the day. Next and last Indiana tournament is September 17th at Sawmill Lake. |
