DO NOT SPEED THROUGH THORNTOWN was noted on the advertisement for the Silent Shores Fall Record! Three of us skiers learned that lesson the hard way! Then a rain/lightening delay after the 5 th skier made us all wonder what was in store for the rest of the day. Surprisingly enough, Silent Shores nickname of "Windy Shores" had to be altered to "Glassy Shores!" For the second time this summer, the conditions were excellent. (The second round got a little breezy but the third round calmed back down) Lots of work by volunteers and officials made the day a great success. Several "PB's" were posted and Connelly Clark made her first appearance at a tournament. It was also rewarding to see a couple of Purdue Team skiers participating in the event.

Keeping warm and dry was the challenge of the day at the August 20th Champion Lake Tournament! The predicted cold front and frequent showers came in earlier that expected but that didn't stop the skiers from competing at beautiful Champion Lake. Rain gear and sweatshirts were the order of the day except for the youngsters who just kept swimming and riding their bikes in the neighborhood. Thanks to the Champion Lake residents and promo boat owners Brian Detty and Neal Clark for a successful party. Top Scores:  Eleven Hoosiers made the trip to Idaho to ski in the 74th U.S. Water Ski National Championships. Bringing home National Championships were Casey Contos in Men 2 Slalom and Prissy Edwards in Women 7 Jump and Overall. In Girls 1 Slalom Julie Mishler and Samantha Hoops took two of the podium finishes with a 2nd and 4th in Slalom respectively and 4th and 3rd in Overall. Samantha also received a 3rd in Tricks. Other podium finishers were Kim Contos in Men 6 Slalom (4th), Jared Sharkey Open Men Tricks (2nd), Molly Harrison Women 2 Tricks (2nd), Jill Smith Women 3 Tricks (2nd), Cheryl Schmitt Women 6 (4th Jump and Overall), and Prissy Edwards Women 7 Tricks (2nd).    Eighteen Indiana skiers traveled to Maize, Kansas to compete in the Midwest Regional Championships. Head lining Gold Medal performance was Julie Mishler in Girls 1 with championships in Slalom and Overall. In the young men division, Mens 2 Slalom and Open Mens Tricks, Casey Contos (4 ½ at 38 off) and Jared Sharkey (5570) brought home Gold Medals. Don Bucher (Men 7 Overall), Jill Smith (W3 Tricks), and Prissy Edwards (W7 Tricks, Jump, and Overall) also brought Midwest Champions back to Indiana. Indiana Skiers Midwest Regional Performances:  The winner of the Mark Wiggs Memorial Trophy at this year's Indiana State Water Ski Championships was Brian Detty of Hawthorne Lake. Brian jumped 114 feet setting a new Indiana State Water Ski Championship record for Mens 5 category. Congratulations Brian Detty.
