Summer weather finally arrived and blessed Hawthorn Lake with perfect skiing conditions for both days of the 66th Bart's Indiana Water Ski Championships! As usual the Hawthorn Lake residents stepped up to the plate and put on a great show. Put a microphone in John Kniesly's hand for 2 days and you know you're going to be doubled over frequently with laughter and asking yourself..."did he really say that?!" Some of our more "seasoned skiers" were present but due to casts, bandages, and open wounds, they were not skiing! There were outstanding Saturday performances off the jump as well as some "PB's" on the slalom course. Then, of course, there's the Team Points contest.....you know there's something awry when Patty Patterson puts on a slalom ski first thing in the morning and skis down and back without getting her hair wet! Silent Shores was the winner of the team point contest. The trick skiers added some jaw-dropping performances on both days. It was most rewarding to witness 3 generations of Bucher skiers participating in this year's event. I can't go without mentioning Gene Lamberson's 54th consecutive Indiana State Championship participation along with Randy Sharkey's 49th year and Prissy Edwards 54 years in Ohio and Indiana State Championships! The informal dinner at LaRanchera in Danville on Saturday night was highlighted with prizes given by Steve Plummer from Bart's and his announcement of the awarding of the Barb Miller scholarship to Megan Lambert for her final year at Purdue University.Outstanding Job Kelli, Brian, Dee Dee and all at Hawthorn Lake. The behind the scenes at the Indiana State Championships. DeeDee the invalid! She borrowed a scooter and it didn't slow her down a bit! Bill and Chia watching the events. The jumpers were breath-taking! It took 6 workers to hook up the cart to the tractor. John Kniesly gimping through the announcing job! Cameron preparing to ski. The crash helmet award to Joe Reagin.

Several Midwest and Indiana water ski tournaments have been cancelled or rescheduled due to water issues. The Silent Shores June tournament was cancelled and is re-scheduled for July 11th. The Hawthorn June tournament was cancelled is is re-scheduled for July 13th. The July 4th Ohio Tournament at Skier's Runway has been cancelled with no rescheduling. Please correct your calendars." We will also be posting the new revised 2015 schedule to the Schedule tab of the website for you all to download and print or save a copy.
The Monday Night Ski League at Silent Shores was lightly attended probably due to weather forcasting. For those of us who attended it was supreme water conditions and allowed all the skiers to enjoy 2 sets with excellent coaching from Silent Shores members Tony Lambert and Neal Clark. Thanks to Neal who donated use of his new Mastercraft promo boat and to Jenni Lambert for driving a good portion of the evening. Don't miss next week's MNSL at Brewski Lake. |
