For Roughly 20 years, USA Water Ski headquarters has been located near Polk City, Florida. Its dark blue building (looks like a NAPA Auto Parts Store!) and ski lake were easily seen from the highway going from Tampa to Orlando. A ground breaking ceremony was recently held in Auburndale, Florida for the new location to be operational in 2018. The new site will include a cable ski lake, 2 championship ski lakes, a sports shop, a waterfront café, etc. The Water Ski Hall of Fame and Museum and Wakeboard Hall of Fame will also be located at the facility.

Numerous Fairland Ski Club members gathered together on Sunday, October 23rd to winterize the ski course. The 70 degree weather helped make the job easy! Some members took off buoys while the beach crew cleaned them up for next year. Later in the day several members reconvened at Ski Klub of Indy at Shelbyville and skied .....maybe for the final ski of the season. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Indiana Statehood, a torch has been touring every county in Indiana. IWSA member and Camelot Ski Lake resident Mrs. Mishler had a cameo appearance in a video prepared by Wawasee Middle School. Mrs. Mishler is the Assistant Principal at Wawasee Middle School and the mother of two female water ski competitors. She, along with other water skiers in Kosciusko County were part of the torch touring project.

For those of you who think it's too late to water ski in October....WRONG! We skied today .....no rubber. We also did some preparation for colder weather......Jerry unhooked hoses from water slides, Jerry and I put the boat high on the lift and then got under it and scrubbed off water stains, I put on new decking on the small dock and then put in on the beach for the winter, and did some mowing on the North 40. And to Tom.....I did try out the Mid Ride today......liked it.....a lot! I won't use it any more....so take home and......thanks for the loan. It was B'ster Fly Detty's last collegiate tournament and his LAST jump!!! He broke a long time record by one of his mentors/dear friend Cale Burdick. JUMP-166' in the books!! The "wait later, cut harder" advice paid off!
Mike Gross and Pinecrest Marine did it up grand on Saturday, October 1st. They opened the doors, started up the band, opened the bar, layed out the food, and the crowd gathered. The "customer appreciation" event drew in a steady crowd from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on an otherwise grey Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Mike and the crew for their hospitality and support for IWSA. |
