The 65th Bart's Indiana State Water Ski Championships held at Hawthorn Lake is now history.  The event got off to a rainy start gut the skies cleared after an hour and half rain to present pristine skiing conditions for all skier divisions on both Saturday and Sunday.  Podium awards were presented throughout the day.  Several State Championship Records were broken  on both days by skiers Nate Smith, Prissy Edwards, Gary Hall, and Glen Reid.  Attendance was at an all time high in comparison to recent state tournaments.  IWSA enrolled 20 new memberships bringing our numbers up close to 100 memberships!  (more that double from previous years!)  Thanks to Hawthorn Lake, the Tucker family, the Detty families, the officials, the promo boat representatives, and friends who pitched in to help.

Free Ski/Free Beer night at Brewski on July 21st brought out the skiers aged 2 to 68!  IWSA Board Members welcomed webmaster Austin DuVall to join in the fun.  Yes...he also skis in addition to managing our new web site!

Good day for Indiana in the In His Wakes Head-to-Head Slalom event in Paducah, KY. Sam Jackson and Casey Contos placed 3rd and 4th respectively, in the 36 MPH division. Both earned their first pay checks in a skiing event!

The first of 2 "learn to ski days" sponsored by the Indy Skiers at their ski site on White River just north of 16th Street in Indianapolis was well attended by both members and guests.  Several new skiers learned to water ski and we were all witness to a couple of people who learned to slalom ski.  Boat rides to the "not so brave" folks was also provided along with beverages and food.  Hats off to the Indy Skiers for promoting our favorite sport.

Skiers from the mid-west and Canada took advantage of the opportunity to receive some coaching from Noah Vieke on July 18th-19th.  Noah took a few days off from his Florida driving/coaching job with Chet Raley and shared his expertise with his Indiana connection.   Dad Andy Vieke was tickled to have Noah home for a few days.  Every skier went away with a "game changer" tidbit to improve their skiing and ball count.

It's time to submit your entries for the Indiana State Water Ski Championships set for July 26th-27th.  The folks at Hawthorn Lake near Danville have been planning and working hard to make this a  memorable event.   There are categories for all caliber skiers including Grassroots level participants.  Appropriate forms can be obtained from your USA Water Ski Regional Guides or on line at usawaterski.org.

mention water skiing and they will come!  Out in the middle of corn country, the Boondocks Lake Hoosier Buoy Tour had a full house.  A#1 Hospitality from the Morton Family and perfect holiday weather combined to make a memorable day.  Skiing conditions were good although a breeze popped up and grabbed Bryan Dougherty's shade tent and deposited it in the middle of the lake where it promptly sank!  After 2 rounds of qualifying, the "head to head format" with 2 boats pulling water skiers to each end of the lake really spiced up the event.  Awards went to Chris Benguis - 1st,  Caroline Sogard - 2nd,  Dan Reed - 3rd.  Due to scheduling issues, the next Hoosier Buoy Tour will be at the Indiana State Championships at Hawthorn Lake.

The Silent Shores Mid Summer Tournament sets a National Record Performance.  Philipa Shedd of Sawmill Lake in Columbus set a new Womens #5 Record of 3 @ 38' off today at the Silent Shores event.  Numerous skiers got into 38' off and one skier, Todd Crow got into 39" off.  Varying weather conditions throughout the day brought rain, cool breezes, and sunshine.  All skiers enjoyed the usual Silent Shores hospitality and the famous pork burgers for lunch.
