Thanks to the hospitality of Ski Klub of Indianapolis, the third Monday Night Ski League was a super success. A better weather situation offered the 9 guest skiers the opportunity to ski. Members Lance Black and Tom Silnes provided both dry land and water based coaching for the skiers. Thanks to SKI members Dan Federspill, Dave Zink, and Kim Black, for making all feel welcome. Next Monday Night Ski League will be at Emerald Lake.

Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there from IWSA! We all admire both the ability and low key attitude of Indiana's own Nate Smith. Let's not forget the man behind the scene. Happy Father's Day to Kevin Smith......father of Nate Smith. Same great skiing ability, same low key personality, certified driver and judge. Kevin skied into 39' off at the Saturday, June 13th tournament held at Sawmill Lake near Columbus, Indiana. And....he did this still skiing on his tried and true, glued together, Goode 9500 named Ouchie!
The first sanctioned tournament of the 2015 season is now in the record books. It was Scott Tynan weather although the sun was too bright in the morning! The first skier off the dock got the luckiest break of the day. Tom Sims made his opener but on his return pass the sun/glare made 3 ball and 5 ball impossible to see. He was allowed a re-run and he finished his complete runs in one direction each pass and spinning back to point of beginning for each successive pass. Also take into consideration that each of his "non-glare" passes was also into a slightly favorable head wind! SlimTom Sims skied his personal best by running 3 @ 35' off. The tournament was then delayed for approximately 1 hour until the angle of the sun changed and there was no more glare. Tom was the envy of all the rest of the skiers of the day! The conditions of the day included a constant head/tail wind which made planning your runs a challenge. Did'nt seem to bother some skiers including Indiana's own Nate Smith who ran 1 @ 43' off multiple times. Next week...Silent Shores. Footapalooza Figure 8 Barefoot tournament was a great success last weekend in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. 26 Footers from the Midwest, Florida and Canada battled out for some great runs and cash prices for top placements. Paul Miller and Jeff Mueller had the longest run in the Open Division with 2.5 Figure 8's. Champion for open division was Ike Aukee from Wisconsin. Marc Donahue and Jon DaBelak had a record run in the Pro Division with 4.25 Figure 8's laps with Jon winning the Pro Division. The Open division results: 1st place Ike Aukee 2nd place Paul Miller 3rd place Logan Walter 4th place Jeff Mueller 5th Place Ron Ronald Coonse Longest run 2.5 figure 8's Paul Miller & Jeff Mueller Pro Division results: 1st Jon DeBelak 2nd Marc Donahue 3rd Fred Deiser New record long run Marc & Jon 4.25 figure 8's The second Monday Night Ski League was a little light in attendance probably due to an all day rain. The sun god blessed the Fairland Ski Club with oodles of sunshine at about 5:00 and those who attended enjoyed the placid waters of Fairland Ski Club. Thanks to the club members who helped drive and coach. All participants got to ski a couple of sets before we pulled the boat out. Next week....Ski Klub of Indianapolis at Shelbyville. Attached below is a PDF representing the schedule of events and information regarding accommodations for the 2015 State Chapmionships. Please read and save or print a copy for yourself. A copy will also be placed in the 2015 Schedule under the SCHEDULE tab above.
It was a c-o-l-d June 1st but that didn't stop the water skiers from appearing for the first Monday Night Ski League of the season. Granted....we did see some rubber (wet suits and shorties) but the spirits and skiing were top notch. Here's hoping that the next Monday Night Ski League to be held June 8th at the Fairland Ski Club will be warmer The 2015 version of the IWSA T-shirts are now available. Basic white with 2 color logo on the front and our $100 sponsors on the backside. Available at all Monday Night Ski Leagues and most Indiana tournaments this summer for $10. Don't miss out as quantities are limited!!! The weatherman predicted rain and doom and gloom. The reality was a perfect sunny day for the 2015 season water ski opener "Spring Fling" held at Brewski Lake in Indianapolis. Approximately 40 skiers enjoyed the glass like conditions pulled by the Silver Spray Sports/Brian Detty's Ski Nautique and later in the day the Master Craft Team/Neal Clark. Burgers, brats, hot dogs, drinks, and and the fixins' were all provided by Indiana Water Ski Association. Thanks to Skier's Edge and Sun Valley Sports for bringing out water sports goods for people to try and purchase. Also thanks to all the helpers who made this event a success. It was especially rewarding to see numerous youngsters attending and participating. |
